Bio: Huayucaltia (“brotherhood” and “unity” in the Nahuatl language) is dedicated to performing original compositions on traditional instruments from Latin America, creating a refreshing hybrid of old and new in the World Beat musical sound. Audiences have a rare opportunity to experience Huayucaltia’s unique multi-instrumentalist approach in taking musical elements from Latin America (Andean, Afro-Peruvian, Meso-American, and Jarocho) and fusing them with jazz, rock, flamenco and classical with a captivating sonic journey through the mountains, valleys and rivers of South America and, with a final destination in Los Angeles. Huayucaltia creates a new World Beat sound evoking a deep emotional connection to the immigrant experience in the US.In 2001, they were nominated for LA Weekly’s Best of Los Angeles Music Awards. They just recently celebrated their 25th anniversary celebration at the John Anson Ford Amphitheater with a near sold-out house.
